OSCCI welcomes Marina Puglisi from the University of São Paulo, who is visiting us for two and a half months to discuss her postdoctoral research findings.

Irene Rujas, from Madrid, is visiting us for three months, working on her PhD in early grammatical development.

Congratulations to Dr Julie Hsu who has just completed data collection for a training study that she started in February 2010. Some interesting results to come soon!

We welcome Annie Brookman who has joined the OSCCI team as our new Graduate Research Assistant and Co-ordinator, following the completion of her BSc at the University of Surrey.

We are happy to announce that Nic and Elena have welcomed into the world a little baby boy called Elliot Thomas Badcock.

We received a message this morning from a very happy Georgina and Ed, and have the pleasure of letting you know that Florence Emilia Holt was born at 5.09am on Sat 30 April, weighing in at 7lb 3oz. Mother and baby are both well, and looking forward to coming home soon.

We say a sad farewell to Nicholas Badcock who is heading back to Australia with his Wife Elena, who is expecting their first child. We wish them every happiness.

We also say a farewell-for-now to Georgina Holt who is also expecting her first child in April. We hope she, and her husband Ed, enjoy every moment, and we look forward to having her back in 2012.

We say farewell to our three graduate students, Bonnie Chow, Simpson Wong, and Peter Collins, who have all successfully completed their theses and gone on to new challenges. We wish them well and look forward to seeing their careers develop in the future.

We welcome Anneka Holden, who has joined OSCCI as a Graduate Research Assistant following the completion of an MSc in Applied Paediatric Neuropsychology at the Institute of Child Health, UCL.

TESTING TWINS IN HONG KONG. In summer 2009, OSCCI members Bonnie and Simpson stayed in Hong Kong for 3 months and completed the second wave testing of the longitudinal Oxford Hong Kong twin study. Working with colleagues in Hong Kong, over 350 pairs of Chinese twins were tested in this wave. This twin study drew the media’s attention and it was filmed by TVB, a popular local television broadcast company.

MAKING LINKS 2009. Our yearly Teachers Day was held this July at St John’s College. The day was a success, with guest speakers including Fiona Duff from the University of York, as well as talks by Nicholas Badcock and Julie Hsu from OSCCI.

 

Feb 2009


We have recently been joined by Dr Pascale Engel, who has spent the last three years at the Working Memory lab in York. This freshly baked ‘Doctor’ has been awarded funding from the ESRC to engage in a one-year long postdoctoral research fellow position here at OSCCI. This funding is designed to provide early career researchers with the opportunity to disseminate their PhD findings, acquire new skills and establish new research links.

We wish Dr Andrew Whitehouse farewell, as he is leaving OSCCI to return to Australia to work at the Telethon Institute for Child Health Research.

Since 2005 we have had a mobile testing unit in which we do psychometric testing and double ERPs.
We are very proud of our "lab" and hope you like the look of it too!
